Allentown's Commission on Homelessness is asking city officials to put $100,000 into a dedicated account in next year's budget for support initiatives.

The custom-designed aerial performance that will illuminate the sky above Seventh and Hamilton streets in Allentown is part of the city's New Year's Eve celebration.

The hourlong program by PBS39 comes in the wake of the closure of a homeless encampment along Jordan Creek in Allentown and the scheduled shutdown of a separate one along the Lehigh River in Bethlehem.

The new 68,000-square-foot store and on-site fuel station at 3300 Lehigh St. will open at 8 a.m. Nov. 21 and afterward operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, the chain said in a release.

Journey, perhaps best known for its 1981 hit "Don't Stop Believin'," will perform at 7 p.m. June 11 at Allentown's PPL Center, the event center announced.
