And so, it's Friday. (It's also trick or treat night in many areas!)
It's been a busy week for us here at LehighValleyNews.com and we'll use today's 5 Things to highlight some of our top stories this week you might have missed:
1. We're in the final stretch to the midterm elections on Nov. 8., and while Pennsylvania's mail-in ballots have been a source of contention, they are still relatively new. As a result, voters frequently make errors filling them out, forcing counties to throw out the votes of otherwise eligible citizens.
Check out this story from Tom Shortell on avoiding ballot errors and making sure your vote counts.
2. The Allentown School Board’s separation agreement with soon-to-be former Superintendent John Stanford gives him nine months' salary and a letter of recommendation.
The board voted 6-to-3 last week to oust Stanford without giving the public a reason. His last day is today.
Speaking of Allentown...
3. Allentown City Council threw the Lehigh Valley IronPigs a curveball Wednesday night when, after months of discussion, the board voted to contribute not one penny to the upgrades needed for the minor league baseball team’s Coca-Cola Park.
Yesterday, Lehigh County promised the IronPigs will be here for "decades and generations to come."
4. Over in Bethlehem, Mayor William Reynolds and city staff debuted an ambitious long-term vision for the city at Northampton Community College on Wednesday night.
