ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A Macungie man has been charged with homicide in the case of a man who died four days after he was assaulted on an Allentown street, authorities said Wednesday.

Hosheem Johnnyray Klotz also was charged with aggravated assault in the March 9 death of Mastapha Brown, which the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office had ruled a homicide, county District Attorney Jim Martin said in a release.

  • Hosheem Johnnyray Klotz faces counts of homicide and aggravated assault
  • Police said multiple surveillance sources showed it was Klotz who assaulted Mastaoha Brown

The incident allegedly occurred in the evening, after which “Allentown Police were called to North 10th and Linden streets for a report of an unconscious man laying in the street,” Martin said in the release.
Video surveillance from multiple sources showed the defendant [Klotz] and Brown engaged in an argument at a nearby restaurant on North 10th Street, the release said.

Klotz pulled the victim outside the restaurant and struck Brown multiple times to the head and face, according to the release.

Brown fell to the ground and Klotz continued the assault by stomping on the victim’s head, causing it to strike the asphalt road, the release said.

"The investigation showed Brown got up, walked over to the curb and stepped up on the sidewalk. Klotz turned and shoved Brown, causing the victim to fall backwards into the street and again strike his head on the road.”<br/>

"The investigation showed Brown got up, walked over to the curb and stepped up on the sidewalk," the release said. "Klotz turned and shoved Brown, causing the victim to fall backwards into the street and again strike his head on the road.”

Two witnesses not named in the release identified Klotz as the man who assaulted Brown.

Brown was conscious and speaking at the time he was discovered by police and paramedics, according to the release.

But he later was admitted to a hospital intensive care unit with head trauma; he died March 13.

The coroner's office determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
