BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The driver of a car that hit a school bus head-on Wednesday crossed a double-yellow line and caused the collision, police said Thursday.
Bethlehem Capt. Nicholas Lechman said three students on the bus reported minor injuries — half the number reported Wednesday by Bethlehem Area School District.
The reason for the discrepancy wasn’t immediately clear.
The collision occurred at 2:05 p.m. at East 4th and Edward streets. Arriving officers found a two-vehicle crash involving the bus and an SUV, Lechman said in a release.
The students who reported minor injuries were transported by Bethlehem EMS for treatment, the release said.
The bus driver and driver of the SUV also reported minor injuries, but were not transported to the hospital.
Fourteen students from Executive Academy Charter School were on the bus, the school district said.
Based on video from the school bus, as well as witness statements, the driver of the SUV was cited for reckless driving, driving on roadways laned for traffic, careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
Police did not immediately identify the driver who was charged.
No violations were issued for the operator of the bus, the release said.
