ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Two Allentown police officers who fired their guns amid a shootout last month at a downtown festival will face no charges.
Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan on Friday ruled the officers were justified in opening fire.
He did not identify the officers by name.
Two Allentown men are facing charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, among other charges, in connection with the shootout at the city's annual Dominican Festival.
Yunior Peralta-Quintana, 21, was arrested the day of the shooting; Miguel Angel Ovalles Ubri, 28, was arrested later that week.
Authorities allege they fired 20 rounds toward each other Aug. 25 in a parking lot near Center City, where hundreds were celebrating at the festival.
Those shots injured six people, including Ovalles Ubri, while two others were injured but not by gunfire, Holihan has said.
Holihan last month released surveillance footage that showed two men — alleged to be Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri — shooting at each other amid a large crowd.
Two Allentown officers fired a dozen shots but did not hit anybody, according to the district attorney.
City cops saved at least two lives by applying tourniquets, Holihan has said.
Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri were in Lehigh County Jail on Friday as they await hearings.
Lehigh County judges set bail at $750,000 for Peralta-Quintana and denied the option of bail for Ovalles Ubri.
