ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A portion of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed this weekend for a bridge replacement project.
The highway will be closed in both directions from midnight to 4 a.m. Saturday between the Lehigh Valley and Quakertown interchanges.
The work is part of the highway’s reconstruction. The shutdown will allow beam work for the Lower Macungie Road bridge replacement, according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
Besides Saturday, the southbound lanes only between the Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) exits will close again on Monday from midnight to 4 a.m.
The Turnpike Commission suggests the following detours:

- PA 309 North 9.3 miles
- I-78 West 6.3 miles
- PA 309 North 1.0 miles
