The southbound lanes of the Northeast Extensiokn of the Pennsylvania Turnpike wil be closed from midnight to 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, between the Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) interchanges, according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A portion of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed this weekend for a bridge replacement project.

The highway will be closed southbound from midnight to 6 a.m. Sunday between the Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) interchanges, according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Northbound traffic will not be affected.

The work is part of the highway’s reconstruction. The shutdown will allow beam work for the replacement of the Tilghman Street bridge, the commission said.

The Turnpike Commission suggests the following detours if headed south:

• Route 22 East 0.5 miles
• Route 309 South 2.0 miles
• Interstate 78 East 6.2 miles
• Route 309 South 9.2 miles
• Route 663 South 3.2 miles
• Re-enter Turnpike at the Quakertown Interchange No. 44

The Turnpike Commission said state police and turnpike personnel will be positioned at the closure point to assist drivers.

Work schedules may change based on weather conditions, according to the commission.
