ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Significant changes in bus fares are coming for LANTA customers.
The Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority has announced the launch of ValleyRide, the Lehigh Valley’s next-generation fare collection system, beginning Aug. 12.
ValleyRide will bring "modern, convenient and equitable fare collection" to bus riders, according to a news release.
LANTA will hold two free, live and informal webinars on Aug. 11 — at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. — at which staffers will answer questions and walk riders through the new format.
Features include:
- Account-Based Ticketing: Load funds and manage your ValleyRide account with Smart Cards, Limited-Use Cards, or the Transit App.
- Fare Capping: Riders never pay more than the cost of a day or 31-day pass within the qualifying period. Unlimited rides are automatically unlocked as you ride.
- Payment Flexibility: Use ValleyRide Smart Cards, Limited-Use Cards, or the Transit App for seamless boarding.
- Enhanced Accessibility: Smart Cards and reduced fare cards are available at LANTA Transportation Centers.
- Mobile Integration: The Transit App fully supports ValleyRide, allowing digital account management and fare payment.
Important transition dates and fare changes with ValleyRide include:
- Token Transit Passes: Token Transit passes will no longer be sold and will only be accepted for fare payment through Aug. 31.
- 10-day Ride and Physical 31-day passes: 10-Ride and Physical 31-day passes will no longer be sold after the launch of ValleyRide. However, previously purchased passes will continue to be accepted until they are used up. 31-Day passes now will be available exclusively through ValleyRide’s new fare capping system.
- Purchasing New ValleyRide Cards: Limited-Use Cards and ValleyRide Smart Cards will be available for cash purchase at LANTA Transportation Centers through Aug. 30.
