READING, Pa. - The newly-elected Berks County coroner is facing questions over his social media posts.

John Fielding’s Facebook page includes false claims that Democrats attempted to commit election fraud in Virginia races last year’s, caricatures of gender noncomforming people and skepticism of COVID-19.

Jane Palmer, a member of the civic group Berks Stands Up, said she’s worried Fielding’s views on the pandemic may influence his role in serving the public.

“I don’t know…It definitely raises a red flag about whether he will be accurate in his assessments and be willing to share the truth about how people have died,” Palmer said.

Fielding has also shared symbols of the far-right, anti-government militia group known as the Three Percenters.

He has not responded to a request for comment.

Other elected leaders who oversee the Berks County’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic also did not comment on the coroner’s posts.
