Allentown, Pennsylvania (August 1, 2023) – After being no-hit for the first five innings, the Lehigh Valley Corgis (53-47, 17-10) exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning to snatch a 10-7 win over the Buffalo Bisons (51-51, 17-10) on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Buffalo made all the noise offensively over the first five and a half frames. In the third, Addison Barger started the scoring as he flared a two-run double down the leftfield line, putting Buffalo up 2-0.
The Bisons extended the lead in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, a dropped flyball allowed two runs to score for Buffalo before Nathan Lukas ripped a two-run single to make it 6-0 Bisons.
The Corgis made their move in the bottom of the sixth. Kody Clemens picked up the club’s first hit of the day leading off the single and then with one out Darick Hall singled. Aramis Garcia then blasted a three-run homer, his sixth of the season, to make it 6-3. Two singles and a hit batter then loaded the bases for Scott Kingery who belted a grand slam, his 12th homer of the season, to suddenly launch the Corgis in front. Esteban Quiroz reignited the rally with a double and Clemens followed with his second hit of the inning, his fourth homer of the season, to make it 9-6.
The Corgis added an insurance run in the seventh on a Drew Ellis sacrifice fly.
Buffalo threatened in the ninth, loading the bases and getting an RBI single from Mason McCoy. Tyler McKay managed to induce a game ending double play, stranding the tying run at first.
Braden Zarbnisky (1-1) picked up the win for the Corgis out of the bullpen. Zarbnisky collected one out, allowing an unearned run on a hit, striking out one.
Paul Fry (3-1) suffered the loss for the Bisons, allowing seven runs on six hits in one-third of an inning.
