SPONSORED: Kody Clemens Socks Three Homers, Darick Hall Collects Five Hits, and the IronPigs Shatter Multiple Franchise Records in Shellacking of Red Wings

Aug 10th Recap
Lehigh Valley IronPigs

Rochester, New York (August 10, 2023) – Multiple franchise records were toppled as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (58-50, 22-13) saw various fantastic individual performances power them to a 17-6 drubbing of the Rochester Red Wings (52-57, 18-18) on Thursday night at Innovative Field.

The IronPigs set a new franchise high in hits (23) while Kody Clemens set a new franchise mark for total bases (14) while tying the record for most homers in a game (3), just the second IronPig to accomplish the feat (Dylan Cozens, 5/2/18 vs SYR). Darick Hall also tied the franchise record for most hits in a game with five, becoming the seventh IronPig to do so and first since Cornelius Randolph on 5/19/21 vs. Syracuse.

The game started off with a bang, as Clemens socked his first of three homers leading off the game and Hall also drilled a two-run homer in the first.

Rochester responded with four in the bottom of the first. Carter Kieboom hit a two-run homer while Erick Mejia forced home a run with a walk and Paul Witt hit a sacrifice fly to put Rochester ahead.

Esteban Quiroz tied the game for the IronPigs with a solo homer and a Hall RBI single in the third put the IronPigs ahead for good.

Clemens led off the fourth with his second homer of the day before Simon Muzziotti drove in another run with a groundout and Rafael Marchan picked up an RBI single.

In the fifth, Clemens hit his third homer of the day, this one a two-run blast, to make it 10-4.

Rochester got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a Travis Blankenhorn solo homer, but the IronPigs responded with force.

A sacrifice fly from Scott Kingery made it 11-5 in the sixth before Clemens doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the seventh with Marchan picking up another RBI single later in the inning. In the eighth, Hall blasted another two-run homer before the IronPigs capped their scoring in the ninth on a Clemens sacrifice fly and Jim Haley RBI single.

Rochester got one more run the rest of the way in the bottom of the eighth on a Jacob Nottingham RBI single.

Drew Hutchison (3-2) grinded through five innings to earn the win for the IronPigs. Hutchison worked five innings, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks, striking out eight.

Roddery Munoz (0-2) suffered the loss for the Red Wings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out four.

The IronPigs continue their series against the Red Wings on Friday, August 11 with first pitch slated for 6:45 p.m.
