WILSON BOROUGH, Pa. — Wilson Area High School Principal John Martuscelli will be the district's acting superintendent starting later this month.
The school board appointed him to the role Monday.
Current Superintendent Douglas Wagner will retire at the end of July after more than two decades leading the district.

Martuscelli will take over as acting superintendent starting July 30.
His appointment runs through the end of June 2025, “or as needed through that time period,” said district Business Manager Stephanie Arnold, the school board's secretary.
“Or shorter,” Martuscelli said with a laugh.
During that time, he will continue to work as the principal of Wilson Area High School — a position he has held since 1997.
As a result, Martuscelli will continue to be paid his $173,480 per year salary as principal, plus an additional $1,106 every two weeks — or an extra $28,756 year — for the duration of his time as acting superintendent.
School board members voted unanimously to approve his appointment.
