ALLENTOWN, Pa. — There will be two new faces on the ballot for the Allentown School Board race in the November general election.
Evelyn Santana has dropped out of the race, citing "personal circumstances." She said she will remain on the board through the end of the year. There are five seats open on the board this election year.

- She was appointed to the board in January
- Both parties can nominate a replacement because she cross-filed
Timothy Benyo, chief clerk of the Lehigh County Office of Elections, said that because Santana cross-filed, both parties can nominate a replacement to fill her vacancy on each party's ballot. They have until Aug. 17 to submit their names.
Santana got 3,371 votes on the Democratic ticket in the May primary, about 22.6% of votes cast. On the Republican side, she garnered 818 votes, or about 29.6% of the vote.
The school board in January appointed Santana to fill the seat of state Sen. Nick Miller, D-Lehigh, which became vacant at the end of 2022 when he was elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature.
The board also appointed Andrene Brown-Nowell in January to replace longtime board member Charlie Thiel, who resigned that month, citing "professional obligations."
Santana is the executive director of partnership sites for Harcum College, a small private two-year school in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County.
Already on the ballot for the November general election are incumbent Audrey Mathison, who is cross-filed as a Democrat and Republican; Andrene Brown-Nowell, who is cross-filed; and Democrats Zaleeae Sierra and Ana Tiburcio.
