ALLENTOWN, Pa. — With mold remediation efforts ongoing, at least two Allentown elementary schools will see several classrooms shuttered for the first day of school, the district said in an update Sunday night.
It comes after routine back-to-school inspections identified elevated spore levels in several classrooms last week at Sheridan Elementary, Ritter Elementary and in a modular classroom at Muhlenberg Elementary.
The modular classroom at Muhlenberg Elementary now has been deemed safe for use, the district said in its update.
Additional cleaning and air quality testing remain underway at Sheridan and Ritter elementary schools, but the district has already identified alternative classroom spaces to ensure classes can begin as scheduled on Monday, Aug. 25, with minimal disruption, the update said.
Families and staff connected to the impacted classrooms have been notified directly of the latest updates.
The district said it will continue to monitor conditions closely and share any new information as it becomes available.
