WILSON, Pa. — Wilson Area High School Principal John Martuscelli soon will have a bit more time on his hands to focus on his grandson and golf game.
The district school board on Monday approved Martuscelli's retirement, effective March 11, 2026, after nearly three decades with Wilson Schools.
Board member Janis Krieger made the motion to accept Martuscelli's retirement “with huge regret.” Fellow member Jonathan Jones offered a lighthearted nay.
“There’s no place else that I would have wanted to be. So whoever is coming in is going to be lucky to get the job, and they’re going to love it here.”Wilson Area High School Principal John Martuscelli on his 29 years with Wilson Area School District
“Being able to take a vacation in the winter — never been able to do that my whole life, so that’ll be nice,” Martuscelli said.
“But I will definitely miss being here quite a bit.”
He has been in education for 35 years, serving WASD as an administrator for the past 29.
He previously taught math with Hazleton Area School District.
Regarding high points of his career, Martuscelli said the personal bonds built with students, parents, teachers and the school board were what stood out to him over the years.
“It’s just all those relationships,” he said.
“There’s no place else that I would have wanted to be,” he said of his time as a Wilson Warrior.
