ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A nearly $1 million grant awarded to Communities in Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania will be used to expand support to six more schools, including two in the Lehigh Valley.

Wilson Area Intermediate School in the Easton area and Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School in Allentown will benefit from the funding.

It will be used to provide “critical coordinated resources” to students through a trained professional who can help connect them to supports and services to help them succeed in school.

Other schools receiving the assistance are in Chester and Berks counties.

"We are thrilled to be a part of this first cohort of CIS affiliates receiving Scaling for Success funding," Tim Mulligan, president and CEO of Communities in Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania, said in a news release. “This will allow us to expand our footprint into Chester County and deepen our commitment in Lehigh, Northampton, and Berks counties.

“This investment expands our ability to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to succeed and create bright futures.”

CISEasternPA targets barriers outside the classroom that prevent students from succeeding in school and provides resources to address those issues.

It serves over 38,000 students a year. In the last school year, 99% of case-managed students stayed in school, and 89% were promoted to the next grade.

CISEasternPA works with nearly 30 schools in Lehigh and Northampton counties, including 11 in Allentown, seven in Bethlehem and four in Easton. Other school districts with schools that receive services include East Penn, Whitehall-Coplay and now the Wilson Area School District in Northampton County.
