NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Veterans in North Whitehall Township will have an early opportunity to celebrate.

The township will hold its second Veterans Day Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 9 at the banquet hall of Schnecksville Volunteer Fire Company.

The luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration beginning at 10:30 p.m. Lunch will be catered by nearby restaurant Pizza Village.

The event will have speeches from state Rep. Zach Mako and a member of the Lehigh Valley Veterans History Project, according to North Whitehall Township Recreation & Communications Coordinator Courtney Corona.

The oldest veterans in the township will be given recognition, and the Parkland Chorus will sing patriotic songs.

The Parkland Chorus sang at North Whitehall's last Veterans Day Luncheon in 2019.

Each veteran can bring a guest, who does not have to live in the township or be a veteran. Corona said she expects about 120 people will attend.

The event took place for the first time in 2019, but has not been held for the past four years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Now that everything's kind of settled down, we're bringing back a lot of our larger events like this,” Corona said.

“We see this as a worthy thing for us to do, just to say thank you one more time and give them that recognition they need."

Corona said the township wanted to bring back the event back in particular because it is a way to show gratitude to veterans.

“We see this as a worthy thing for us to do, just to say thank you one more time and give them that recognition they need,” Corona said.

"And also to get the residents together, and just have them in fellowship with each other and getting to know people that they might not have met before.”

The township has no groups or organizations for veterans within its borders, she said.

North Whitehall veterans who want to attend the luncheon can sign up online or using paper forms available in the township municipal building at 3256 Levans Road.
