UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — Upper Macungie Township's Barktoberfest has been delayed.
The dog-friendly festival at Grange Park will now take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 15, instead of its original scheduled date of Saturday, Oct. 14.
Meteorologists say the Lehigh Valley will get heavy rain Saturday afternoon after light showers all morning. Sunday is expected to be rain-free, though it likely will be colder than normal.
"As long as the weather cooperates, Sunday should be a great day!"Upper Macungie Township Recreation Supervisor Mike Kukitz
Grange Park's Barktoberfest will have vendors, food, a DJ and a raffle. Pets and owners are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes and participate in the event's pet parade and costume contest.
Township Recreation Manager Mike Kukitz said there also will be a new tail-wagging competition.
"As long as the weather cooperates, Sunday should be a great day!" Kuktiz said in an email.
Even more Barktoberfests?
Dog owners who would rather brave the Saturday rain than wait until Sunday's festivities are in luck.
Another Barktoberfest celebration, called Barktoberfest Pet Fair, still will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday in Macungie Memorial Park. It will not be delayed due to the rain.
Barktoberfest Pet Fair will have a dog agility course, a pet blessing ceremony, training demos and more, according to the event's Facebook page.
And yet another Barktoberfest event will be next weekend at the Promenade Shops in Saucon Valley.
That event will feature dock diving, contests, dog training demonstrations and info sessions. It will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
