UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — A new winter-themed event is coming to Upper Macungie.
The township will hold its first Winter Festival from 4-7 p.m. Feb. 10 at Grange Park. It plans to make it an annual event.
Township Recreation Manager Mike Kukitz said his team came up with the idea for the free, family-friendly festival as a way to get residents to enjoy the park during the cold winter months.
“We thought that this was kind of a unique opportunity to get people out in the park in February,” Kukitz said.
The event will feature crafts, inflatables, face painters, live music by local band Mike Stanley and Friends and a horse-and-carriage ride for families on a shortened track around the park.
Kukitz said there may also be a snowman building contest if there is snow on the ground.
There will be no charge for any of the activities.
"We are going to do everything we can to push forward with the event on Feb. 10.”Upper Macungie Township Recreation Manager Mike Kukitz
Food trucks at the event will include Uncle Paul's Stuffed Pretzels, Grumpy's BBQ, Travelin' Tom's Coffee Truck, Grubnight Food Truck and Kline's Kernels.
The night will end with a drone show, which is similar to a fireworks show but without the noise.
“It’s kind of a new trend,” Kukitz said.
If there is inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Feb. 17.
“But we are going to do everything we can to push forward with the event on Feb. 10,” Kukitz said.
Kukitz said he expects a few thousand people to attend.
