South Whitehall Township plans to hold some upcoming community events this summer.

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Grab your popcorn!

South Whitehall Township will hold its first Summer Movie Series event this from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 28, at the township municipal building’s grass circle, 4444 Walbert Ave.

The event will feature food trucks, vendors with giveaways, a screening of the Pixar film “Elemental,” — and a feedback session about the township's new transportation plan.

It will be the first community movie event at the township municipal building, which is next to the Parkland Community Library.

Event details

Starting at 6 p.m., the township will hold an information and feedback session about its Transportation PLAN, a comprehensive transportation planning initiative.

Currently, the plan focuses on improving walkability, bikeability and motor vehicle safety.

“Participants will be able to review maps of the proposed active transportation network, priority safety corridors, and safety focal points,” Township Manager Tom Petrucci wrote in an email.

Residents will be able to ask questions and fill out surveys with their feedback on potential solutions.

Starting at 7 p.m., the South Whitehall Public Works and Police Departments will have vehicles out for kids to interact with, to see how they “handle the elements.”

Cetronia Ambulance Corps and the Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, also will be present.

KidStrong, a fitness program for children, and Parkland Area Library will provide activities and giveaways, and food trucks Grateful Dogs, Slide on By and Kona Ice will begin selling food at 7 p.m.

“It's the perfect summer food!” the event description reads.

“Elemental” will start screening at dusk, about 8:40 p.m. The film set in Element City, where fire-, water-, land- and air residents live together.

The film, released last summer, was at first considered a box-office flop, only earning about $30 million in the United States and Canada on its opening weekend.

But it since has become a hit on streaming platforms and through DVD sales.
