Three new members joined Parkland’s school board for the first time: Alyssa Beckwith, John Macklin and Matthew Weimann.
Where Macklin and Weimann received the Democratic nomination in the primary election this year, Beckwith and Hein secured both Democratic and Republican nominations.
The newcomers replace departing members Anette Wilcox, Robert Cohen and David Ellowich, none of whom sought re-election.
Once the new members took their seats at the dais, the full board selected David Hein, who previously served as the board’s vice president, to assume the presidency.
The job of vice president went to Chris Pirrotta.
The new school board will need to manage rising expenses, large scale capital projects and looming tax hikes.
Parkland will soon begin construction on a $70.7 million expansion at Parkland High School, part of its Vision 2030 plan to manage rising enrollment.
