SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — A new housing development soon may border Cedar Creek Park.

South Whitehall Planning Commission on Thursday reviewed a sketch plan for a housing development at 81 S. Cedar Crest Blvd.

The proposed development would be near the Allentown border, adjacent to Cedar Creek Park as well as Cedar Crest College. The area now is mostly woodlands.

The development would have 11 single-family detached homes on a cul-de-sac. It is owned by Hallmark Building Group and is in the R-4 Medium Density Residential Zoning District.

Planning commission members repeated comments made in township staff review letters, such as suggesting the development include a trail connection to the Cedar Creek Path.

One resident asked whether the houses would worsen traffic near an already busy intersection of Cedar Crest and Hamilton Boulevards.

Planning Commission Chairman David Wilson said since sketch plans are not official submissions and are made early in the development process, the plan would have to go through several more rounds of review before construction.
