EASTON, Pa. — Northampton County will hold a gun buyback event Saturday aimed at getting unused or unwanted weapons off the street.

  • Northampton County will offer $50-200 grocery gift cards in return for unwanted guns Saturday
  • The program is open to people living outside the county
  • The buyback will be held at Leithsville Fire Station in Hellertown and the Northampton Fire Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

County residents and people living outside the county can turn in rifles, handguns, shotguns and semi-automatic weapons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Leithsville Fire Station in Hellertown and Northampton Fire Department.

In return, participants will get $50-$200 in grocery gift cards, depending on the condition of the weapon. Sites also will accept unwanted ammunition.

In a news release, representatives for the District Attorney’s office said the program is “entirely anonymous,” and participants will not need to show proof of ID.

This is the second gun buyback hosted by the Northampton County District Attorney Terry Houck. The first, in October 2022, collected more than 300 weapons, according to the DA’s office.

The buyback is funded through the DA’s office using money from the 2022 Northampton County Public Safety Grant.

Officials will run checks on guns turned in. Any associated with a crime will be used as evidence; the rest will be destroyed.
