EASTON, Pa. — An Easton Area School District employee —who's also a Northampton County Councilwoman — has been called out over “deeply insensitive” social media posts regarding the recent death of conservative media personality Charlie Kirk.
EASD Superintendent Tracy Piazza, in an email to parents of students, said the statements made in the posts were “deeply insensitive, without merit, and in conflict with all that we stand for as a district.”
"The social media post in question stands in stark opposition to everything we teach and stand for as a district."Easton Area Schools Superintendent Tracy Piazza
In at least one Facebook post, schools nurse supervisor Kelly Keegan allegedly stated Kirk "was a monster and his wife and kids are better off without him, as is the rest of the world. Hopefully her next partner will respect women and children.”
The post was captured in screen shots shared on Facebook, but could not be found on Keegan's Facebook account. Posts that shared it said Keegan had removed it.
Social media posts regarding Kirk, who was fatally shot in Utah Wednesday, have been prevalent. A suspect, Tyler Robinson, has been apprehended in the shooting.
Negative reactions have garnered attention from accounts such as the conservative LibsofTikTok, which has been reporting on posts criticizing or otherwise insulting Kirk and providing updates on the posters after encouraging followers to report the individuals to their places of business.
'In stark opposition'
The message from Piazza also was posted on the EASD website.
Keegan also represents District 2 on Northampton County Council. Her term lasts through Dec. 31, 2027. Its Personnel Committee is scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Efforts to reach Keegan for comment Saturday were unsuccessful.
Piazza in the statement said EASD schools are founded on respect, empathy and compassion, where “every individual is treated with dignity, even in disagreement.”
“While we recognize that, as individuals, we all have our own opinions and beliefs, as a district, we also believe that public statements that diminish the value of human life or are indifferent to the importance of family are without basis," Piazza said in the statement.
"The social media post in question stands in stark opposition to everything we teach and stand for as a district."
'We will not condone or tolerate'
Piazza says in the message that district employees are expected to harbor respect and compassion both in their professional roles and lives, and anything else is considered unacceptable.
“The administration and Board of Education are dedicated to ensuring that our actions and communications consistently reflect our fundamental beliefs and uphold the trust placed in us by the community, regardless of one’s political views,” the message reads.
“We will not condone or tolerate such behavior.
"We are actively reviewing the situation and will take appropriate action in accordance with district policies and laws. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our school community remains a safe, respectful, and supportive place for all.”
One post featuring an image of Keegan and a shot of her alleged message about Kirk was shared on Facebook from an individual named Lane Brown, who claims to be from Oklahoma, and had been shared more than 1,300 times Saturday.
Easton Area School Board next is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 30.
Northampton County Council is next scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.
News of social media posts have made waves, with many posts on X.com calling for her dismissal and listing contact information for both the school and county.
