GLENDON, Pa. — The site of the landmark Glendon Hotel, which was built in 1740 and demolished in 2021, is the planned location of five affordable townhomes that will feature 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths each.

Northampton County Executive Lamont G. McClure and the Northampton County Department of Community and Economic Development announced Friday that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has granted Northampton County $200,000 for the project.

The money was made possible by the Pa. Race Horse Development and Gaming which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through its Local Share Accounts.

  • The CFA has provided a $200,000 for the construction of affordable townhomes at the former Glendon Hotel site
  • The CFA grants, sourced from Local Share Accounts, support economic and community development projects
  • The Glendon Hotel Affordable Housing project will consist of five 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom townhomes

The grants were approved by the CFA Board through Local Share Accounts established under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004).

"The Local Share Accounts Program supports projects that promote economic development, community development and public interest throughout the Commonwealth, and I'm pleased the Glendon Hotel project was selected," McClure said.

The Glendon Hotel Affordable Housing project aims to create five townhomes featuring three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. In addition to the CFA grant, further funding for the project will be pursued through the Pennsylvania HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds, as well as an investment of Federal HOME entitlement funds.

Other communities that will benefit from CSA approved funds include:

Allen Township:
$125,000 to replace a backhoe

Bethlehem Township:
$18,775 to buy a CPR device
$37,733 to buy a defibrillator
