COVID-19 forced the event out of the Pennsylvania Convention Center and onto 15-acres at FDR Park in South Philly.
Guests walk through displays like a faux-campground made of bamboo and an “Enchanted Forest” with creatures made from branches and moss.
One greenhouse display features living room furniture covered in succulents, a nod to all the time spent at home during the pandemic.
Show visitor Marlene Snyder of Huntingdon Valley, Montgomery County, says she was impressed that exhibitors planted flowers on the grounds of the park.
“Oh, I think it’s absolutely magnificent. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has just taken use of every inch of space,” Snyder says.
She’s also glad to see the show break tradition and get outside.
“Here, you feel more like you’re in the plants and the flowers' natural habitat. So, it’s a whole different feeling,” adds Synder.
Another attendee, Mary Killoran of Upper Southampton Township in Bucks County, says she prefers the traditional indoor location.
“I like the original, I’ve been going for like 25 years,” Killoran says.
Flower show organizers have not committed to changing the venue for future flower shows.
Since coronavirus restrictions have loosened, guests may buy a ticket online or in-person. Adult tickets cost $45 and tickets for children cost $20.
