The Lehigh Valley is buried under more than two feet of snow. Officials are continuing to urge drivers to stay off the roads, although they say they’re in recovery mode, with the worst behind us.

The Lehigh County 911 Center saw an uptick in calls on Feb. 2, including many calls from people stuck on snow-filled roads, according to Tanya Hook, director of the Lehigh County Emergency Management Agency.

“We’re seeing some additional calls for not only EMS, but also police,” Hook says, “A lot of people are trying to get out there and do daily things or go to work.”

As plows try to clear the roads, the problem becomes where to discard the loads of snow. Todd Weaver, director of the Northampton County Emergency Management Agency, says it’s up to each municipality.

“They may have a local park or place where they can basically bring in front-end loaders, haul it away, dump it there and let nature take its course,” Weaver says.

Officials say they are also looking several days ahead preparing for cold temperatures and icy roads that are predicted for the weekend.
