Voter registration totals have reached a record high in Pennsylvania - and officials say they’re expecting record turnout on Election Day as well. WLVR’s Hayden Mitman reports on the latest update from the commonwealth’s secretary of state, Kathy Boockvar.
“We have 9,050,870 registered voters, and that number will continue to climb. All time high! I’m very excited for the engagement of Pennsylvanians,” said Boockvar.
With so many voters, including 2.8 million expected mail in-ballots, Secretary Boockvar urged residents to be patient while awaiting results following the election.
“When you have almost 3 million ballots go out, it takes time. But, we are working with the counties to make sure that every piece of this process we are doing as quickly as possible.”
Though a court ruling will allow mail-in ballots postmarked by Nov. 3 to be received until the Friday following Election Day, Boockvar says voters should not wait.
“I don’t care what the Supreme Court said or didn’t say. Ballots need to be mailed. If you’re mailing a ballot, it needs to be mailed this week. If it’s going to be dropped off, it needs to be dropped off by November 3.”
Voters have until Oct. 27 in order to apply for a mail in ballot.
