UPDATE: New York man charged; crash occurred during high-speed police chase, authorities say
LOWER NAZARETH TWP., Pa. — A 67-year-old Montgomery County woman died Tuesday in a head-on crash with another car that state police said fled after committing a traffic violation on Route 191.
A Colonial Regional Police officer in a marked vehicle observed a 2018 Mercedes Benz commit the violation about 10:25 a.m., then turn onto Hecktown Road and speed off, state police said.
The driver lost control and hit a Kia Sportage head-on in the opposite lane, according to a report.
State police identified the victim in the Kia as Susan Henderson, 67, of Norristown. She died of blunt force injuries and the Northampton County Coroner ruled the manner of death as homicide, state police said.
The Mercedes driver was identified as a 27-year-old man. His name was not released. A passenger in his car has yet to be identified, state police said. Both of the Mercedes occupants were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital - Anderson.
Hecktown Road was closed between Cobblestone Lane and Frank Street during the investigation. The Bethlehem Township Police Department assisted.
