It will be just the second time in more than 25 years that Roth has played the Lehigh Valley. He last opened for KISS of its final tour when it stopped at PPL Center in 2020.
Roth, 70, known as “Diamond Dave,” was lead vocalist for Van Halen's initial success, 1974-85, during which it had six multi-platinum discs that sold a total of 30 million copies.
His was the voice on 15 charting hits such as “Runnin’ With the Devil,” “Jump” and “Panama.”
He rejoined the band for a reunion tour in 1996, and was the band’s singer from 2007 until they disbanded in 2020.
In 2007, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the band.
Solo success and LV stops
In addition, Roth has had success as a solo singer.
His 1986 solo debut album “Eat Em’ and Smile” and his 1988 sophomore disc “Skyscraper” both went platinum, and he had Top 20 hits “California Girls,” “Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody” and the 1988 No. 1 hit “Just Like Paradise.”
In all, as a solo performer, Roth has had 12 songs hit Top 30 on the Rock chart.
He has released six solo albums, with his latest being 2003’s “Diamond Dave,” which peaked just inside the Top 20 on the Indie chart.
His only full-length album with Van Halen after 1984, “A Different Kind of Truth,” was released in 2012.
In October 2021, Roth announced his intentions to retire from performing following a final residency set at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. All the shows were cancelled.
Before his PPL Center show with KISS, Roth last played in the Lehigh Valley in 1999, when he opened for Bad Company at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena.
He headlined a non-fair show at Allentown Fairgrounds Grandstand that drew 2,250 people in 1991.
