ALLENTOWN, Pa. - One of The Lehigh Valley’s largest and longest running events is returning. The Great Allentown Fair is slated to come back in September.
The COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t the first time the Great Allentown Fair had to shut down, but Jessica Ciecwisz, marketing and event planner with the fair, says it's been a while.
“It was in 1917 and 1918 when we were closed and were used for World War I training,” Ciecwisz says.
Like so many other businesses hurt by the pandemic, Ceiscisz says restarting operations has been financially tough. But she says they are prepared for more than 300,000 people to return to the Allentown Fairgrounds in September for the traditional agricultural shows, cook offs, and more.
“And then we have a midway, which you know the carnival rides and then we have our grandstand, which is about a 10,500 facility seating concert venue,” Ciecwisz says, where some pretty big name country stars are scheduled to perform.
Ciecwisz says the fair will be tracking any changes in the state’s COVID rules over the summer.
“There’s no question the great thing that’s on our side is we are an outdoor event. We’ll of course be adding more hand sanitizer stations and hand washing stations,” she says.
The fair starts Sept. 1 and runs through Labor Day Sept., 6.
