WASHINGTON - Exactly one week after U.S. Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA) was hunkered in an undisclosed location in the U.S. Capitol complex after insurgents attacked, she cast her vote on Jan. 13 to impeach President Trump for his role in those violent events.
She says lawmakers had to act in the wake of the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol that was driven by the president. Wild says the President incited the insurrection.
“It was essential that we make sure that the President of the U.S., who is supposed to be a model, who is supposed to set an example, and instead incited people to do this, that he be held accountable and that no future president of the United States could think they could get away with this kind of conduct.”
“The President was whipping up people to go up against Congress, trying to convince them to take actions that would intimidate members of Congress to certify an election. It just couldn’t go unmarked,” she says.
She hopes impeachment will help ensure that no future president of the United States will get away with those actions.
And while all of the Democratic members of Pennsylvania's House delegation voted for impeachment, Wild says she was deeply disappointed that all nine Republican reps from the state voted against it.
