Theatrical rock group Foxy Shazam, which in the 2010s had two albums in the Top 50 Rock Albums, will play Allentown's Archer Music Hall at 6 p.m. April 17. Tickets went on sale Friday.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A theatrical rock band that more than a dozen years ago seemed on the verge of breaking out but broke up instead will play Allentown's Archer Music Hall, it was announced.

Foxy Shazam, which in 2011 and 2012 had three songs in the Top 40 on the Rock chart, and whose single "Unstoppable" was used in the Super Bowl XLIV telecast, will perform at 6 p.m. April 17.

Tickets, at $38.10 each for general admission standing and $38.10-$146.30 for balcony seating, went on sale Friday at the Archer website.

The band will be supporting hard-rock group Hail the Sun, whose 2016 disc "Culture Scars" broke the Top 40 on Billboard's Albums chart.

Also on the bill will be hard rock band Makari and alternate rock band Mella.

Tickets, at $38.10 each for general admission standing and $38.10-$146.30 for balcony seating, went on sale Friday at the Archer website.

It will be a return to Allentown for Foxy Shazam, which during its heyday was a favorite at the city's former Crocodile Rock Cafe — playing there twice in 2008 and once each in 2011 and 2012.

Early albums, song use in media

Foxy Shazam hit the charts with its self-titled major-label debut in 2010. The disc reached No. 50 on Billboard's Rock Albums chart and included the song "Wanna-Be Angel," which peaked at No. 6 on the Hot Singles chart.

In addition to being used on the Super Bowl broadcast, "Unstoppable" was used in video games and as a theme song on the Cartoon Network show "Tower Prep," in a trailer for the movie "Your Highness" and in a series of the commercials for MLB Network.

But the group had its biggest success with the 2012 album "The Church of Rock and Roll," which peaked at No. 24 on the Alternative Albums chart.

That disc produced three Top 40 Rock chart hits: "I Like It," which peaked at No. 5; and "Holy Touch" and "Welcome to the Church of Rock and Roll," both of which hot the Top 40 on that chart.

Foxy Shazam released just one more album, 2014's "Gonzo," before breaking up.

Lead singer Eric Nally wrote songs for Meatloaf and was featured on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' song "Downtown" in 2015.

Hail the Sun

Foxy Shazam regrouped in 2020 with three of its longtime members and released the album "Burn," which failed to chart.

The song "Welcome to the Church of Rock and Roll" was used in the first episode of the first season of the HBO Max series "Peacemaker," as well as in the second official trailer.

Its song "Oh Lord" from its self-titled album was used in the show's second season, and it recorded an original song, "The Mighty Crabjoys Theme," for the 2025 film "Superman."

Foxy Shazam has since has released four more albums, with the most recent being "Box of Magic" in October.

Hail the Sun released its debut album, "POW! Right In the Kisser!" in 2010 and had its biggest success with its third studio album, 2016's "Culture Scars," which hit No. 38 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart.

In all, the band has released seven full albums and three EPs. Its latest release was the album, "cut. turn. fade. back," in October.
