WEISENBERG TWP., Pa. — A small airplane that experienced engine problems while flying from New Jersey to Indiana made an emergency landing on Interstate 78 early Saturday, police said.

Police said they got a call at 9:19 a.m. that a plane was on I-78 in Weisenberg Township.

It was determined a 1995 Commander 114B plane, operated by a 65-year-old man from Michigan, departed from Solberg, New Jersey, trying to fly to Indiana.

En route, the operator reported unknown engine problems and tried to fly to a local airport in the area, but landed on I-78 eastbound at mile marker 45.6.

A 34-year-old woman from New Jersey was a passenger on the plane, police said.

Eastbound traffic was reopened at 1 p.m.

The incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
