ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A nationwide initiative to bring cops and residents together will have the participation of many local police departments this year.
National Night Out is held the first Tuesday in August, which this year is Aug. 6.
“National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community," according to the event website.
"Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."
There are about a dozen National Night Out events scheduled across the Lehigh Valley.
Here are some of the events in the region:
Allentown Police Department
Where: Cedar Beach Park, 2600 Parkway Blvd, Allentown
When: 5-8 p.m.
Featuring: Touch-A-Truck, K-9 Demo, Crime Prevention Bike Registration, live music and food trucks.
Alburtis Police Department
Where: Alburtis Community Pool, 242 Walnut St., Alburtis
When: 6-8 p.m.
Featuring: K-9 demo, ice cream, hot dogs, representatives from fire companies, EMS and police.
Bangor Police Department
Where: Bangor Memorial Park, 90 Eisenhart Blvd, Bangor
When: 6-9 p.m.
Featuring: Blowup obstacle course, dunk tank, bounce house, live demonstrations, Bully Bash Game, face painting and a live DJ.
Bethlehem Township Police Department
Where: Bethlehem Township Municipal Park, Farmersville Road, Bethlehem
When: 5-8 p.m.
Featuring: Free food, a Jaws of Life demonstration, representatives from police and fire companies.
Easton Police Department
Where: Paxinosa Elementary School, 1221 Northampton St., Easton
When: 5-8 p.m.
Featuring: Rock climbing, bungee jump, free food and a performance from the Big Easy Easton Brass Band.
Emmaus Police Department
Where: 400 Jubilee St., Emmaus
When: 6-8 p.m.
Featuring: Face painting, a balloon artist, Bodega Bistro Food Truck, free hot dogs, Percy the camel, basket raffles, school supply/backpack giveaways and tours of the police department.
Forks Township Police Department
Where: Forks Community Park, 1606 Sullivan Trail, Easton
When: 6-9 p.m.
Featuring: Live DJ, face painting, police and fire department demonstrations, food and a bounce house.
Lower Saucon Township Police Department
Where: Town Hall Park, 3682 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bethlehem
When: 5-8 p.m.
Featuring: Hot dogs, ice cream, face painting, water balloon battles, K-9 demos, carriage rides and an auto extraction demo.
Nazareth Police Department
Where: Nazareth Borough Park, 45 Morris St., Nazareth
When: 6-8 p.m.
Featuring: Free hot dogs, bounce house, live DJ, K-9 demo and emergency vehicles.
Slatington Police Department
Where: Northern Lehigh High School, 1 Bulldog Lane, Slatington
When: 5-8 p.m.
Featuring: Emergency vehicles, food trucks, dunk tank, bounce house, face painting and music.
South Whitehall Township Police Department
Where: Covered Bridge Park, 2465 Wehr Mill Road, Allentown
When: 5- 8 p.m.
Featuring: Pennsylvania National Guard helicopter, K-9 demo, inflatable obstacle course, police hayrides, emergency vehicle displays and cornhole versus the police.
Upper Macungie Township Police Department
Where: Grange Park, 360 Grange Road, Allentown
When: 5-8 p.m.
Featuring: Car show, live music, food trucks, photo opportunities with cartoon characters, K-9 demo and rides.
Upper Saucon Township Police Department
Where: Hopewell Park, 4695 W Hopewell Road, Center Valley
When: 5:30-9:15 p.m.
Featuring: Free food and drinks, fireworks, face painting, rock wall, obstacle courses, pirate ship, K-9 demo, hayrides, motorbike demo and a police vs. kids water fight.
