The music

Here are music acts to catch today, Saturday, Aug. 5:

Devon Allman and Donavan Frankenreiter, 9:30 p.m., Americaplatz

The career of Devon Allman, son of Allman Brothers founder Gregg Allman, has been varied: leader of blues/rock band Honeytribe, a member of Royal Southern Brotherhood, a solo act and a duet with fellow Allman Brothers progeny Duane Betts. And all have been musically good. Now, Devon Allman and musical partner Donovan Frankenreiter will try to set a world record by playing shows in all 50 states in 49 days. It's “the big show that day," ArtsQuest Programming Director Patrick Brogan said. "We’re Day 1, and we’re the double day [Allman kicks off the tour in Maryland earlier in the day]. Very interested to see it. I’m glad we’re at the front of it than deeper in it,” Brogan said with a laugh. ”But excited to have that here.”

Dave Goddess Duo, 7 p.m. Martin Guitar Lagerplatz. Also, 3 p.m. Monday, Main Street, with guest steel guitarist Robbie Bossert

For the past few decades, Dave Goddess has released music from his New York City base — passionate, genuine roots-rock songs such as "Back in Business," "Last of the West Side Cowboys," "Something Worth Waiting For" and his new "Hey Romeo." But Lehigh Valley music fans still hold dear his work with the 1980s area group Daddy Licks Band and songs such as "Just a Little Goes a Long Way." Dave Goddess Duo, with Daddy Licks bassist Mark Buschi, retains that group's earnestness and adds maturity.

Magnum, 8 p.m. Musikfest Cafe
Rock group Magnum was among the biggest Lehigh Valley region original music band from its formation in 1978 until it officially disbanded in 1994. It still plays annual reunions and special shows, and its audience returns, too. Expect a crowd.

Shamarr Allen, 9:30 p.m. Stadtplatz

Shamarr Allen, a New Orleans trumpet player, melds funk, jazz and rock with a heavy dose of hip-hop and calls himself “True Orleans." “He’s a great live show,” Brogan said. “Multi-instrumentalist, horns and smooth pop sound.”

Garth., 6:30 p.m. Zinzenplatz

Brooklyn funk/soul/pop singer and multi-instrumentalist Garth. “is another one who I adore,” Brogan said. ”A great backing band; even smoother frontman vocals.” Garth. claims more than 5 million streams on Spotify.

Dry Reef, 5 p.m. Americaplatz

Dry Reef, a reggae-meets-jam jam band, is back for a second run at Musikfest after debuting last year. ”Love them; wanted to bring them back,” Brogan said.

For foodies

The pepperoni pizza at ArtsQuest is cooked in a wood brick oven.

For a slice of deliciousness, look for the giant pizza sign in front of the ArtsQuest building at SteelStacks.

The food stand serves cheese, veggie and pepperoni pies starting at $13.

It's full of flavor (but without the messy grease) and a good option for even the pickiest of eaters.
