Musikfest announces hip-hop headliner for 40th anniversary festival

Rapper G-Easy will headline Musikfest

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bethlehem’s Musikfestfestival has announced a rap headliner for its 40th anniversary year.

Rapper G-Eazy, best known for his 2017 hit "No Limit" featuring ASAP Rocky and Cardi B, and 2015's "Me, Myself and I" with Bebe Rexha, will headline the main Steel Stage at the massive music festival in downtown and South Side Bethlehem at 7 p.m. Aug. 5, it was announced Monday.

Tickets, at $20-$69, go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday at the ArtsQuest Center box office at 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.

G-Eazy, known for his smooth raps, has performed on "Saturday Night Live," "MTV Video Music Awards," The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and has won a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Hip-Hop Artist.

Hits started with debut disc

His debut album, 2014's "These Things Happen," sold platinum and produced the triple-platinum hit "I Mean It" featuring Remo, as well as five other hits: the platinum "Tumblr Girls"
(featuring Christoph Andersson) and "Far Alone"
(featuring Jay Ant and E-30, and the gold "Been On," "Almost Famous" and "Lotta That" featuring ASAP Ferg and Danny Seth.

His sophomore album, 2015's double-platinum "When It's Dark Out," produced not only "Me, Myself and I," but also the platinum hit "Order More" and the gold hits "Drifting" and "Some Kind of Drug."

His 2017 third album, "The Beautiful & Damned," debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and had the seven-times platinum hit “No Limit,” which now has been streamed more than 1 billion times worldwide.

This year will be the 40th anniversary year for Musikfest. The festival, which normally runs 10 days, will stretch to 11 days this year with a preview night, which will run Aug. 3-13.

That disc also had the gold hit "Sober."

In 2021, G-Eazy released his fourth studio album, These Things Happen Too," as a sequel to his debut LP, and features him working with YG on "Instructions," while also leaning into the pop sphere on tracks such as “Breakdown” featuring Demi Lovato and “Faithful” featuring Marc E. Bassy.

G-Eazy is the ninth headline act announced so far for this year.

Previously announced was indie-pop trio AJR on opening night preview night, Aug. 3; Grammy Award-winning country music duo Dan + Shay on Aug. 6; country singer Walker Hayes on Aug. 7; R&B singers Keith Sweat and Monica on Aug. 8;
alt-rockers Goo Goo Dolls and O.A.R. on Aug. 9; comedian Gabriel Iglesias on Aug. 10; Maren Morris on Aug. 12; and Grammy Award-winning soft rock group Train on closing night Aug. 13.

It will be the third straight year Musikfest has added an 11th headline act by offering a Thursday “preview” concert. It was country star Darius Rucker in 2021 and Boyz II Men last year.
