HANOVER TWP., LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. — Nearly 100,000 passengers traveled through Lehigh Valley International Airport in June — a record for the month, airport authority officials have announced.

And the numbers likely are pointing upward with United Airlines' announcement that it will add a new midday flight to Chicago O’Hare International Airport later this summer.

“These next three months [June, July, August] are always the busiest for us. The return of seasonal service to Denver and Nashville also has added a strong boost to activity.”

In all, the airport announced, 99,966 travelers passed through LVIA last month, a 1.4% increase over June 2024 and the best June on record for traffic at the airport.

“These next three months [June, July, August] are always the busiest for us,” Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority Executive Director Thomas Stoudt said in a statement.

“The return of seasonal service to Denver and Nashville also has added a strong boost to activity.”

Most of the growth comes from additional people flying Allegiant Air and United Airlines, the airport said.

The number of passengers flying Delta through LVIA remained flat compared to June 2025, while the number of American Airlines saw its passenger figures at the airport plunge 17.5%.

If the airline selects a larger regional jet for its new Chicago flight, Lehigh Valley International Airport could see passenger traffic increase after the scheduling change, airport officials said.

Airport officials announced earlier this month that the new midday flight to Chicago will launch on Aug. 19.

United currently offers two daily flights from LVIA to Chicago O’Hare: one scheduled for 6:30 a.m. and another at 5:35 p.m. The new flight will fall somewhere in between.

As a result, passengers will have more flexibility and more opportunities to connect to destinations in the western United States, Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority Director of Public Relations Colin Riccobon has said.

United has not yet shared what aircraft will fly the new route.

The amount of air cargo traffic passing through LVIA also jumped 23.5% year over year in June to more than 23 million pounds, according to the airport.
