BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Kathleen P. Steele, 72, formerly of Allentown, died June 9 in New Jersey.
For many years, Steele vetted all math and science questions on the PBS-39 academic competition "Scholastic Scrimmage," and acted as a judge for each game.
Until recently, Steele wrote questions for each show, said Catherine Reifsnyder, education director at Lehigh Valley Public Media, parent of PBS-39, WLVR and LehighValleyNews.com.
"She was wonderful to work with and her dedication and humor will be deeply missed by her Scrimmage family," Reifsnyder said.
A graduate of Caldwell University in Caldwell, New Jersey, Steele received a doctorate in biology at West Virginia University in 1977.
She was an assistant professor of biology at Moravian University, then taught biology, chemistry and physics at Pius X High School in Bangor for 30 years before retiring in 2015.
Steele was laid to rest June 14 in New Jersey. The Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, New Jersey, handled arrangements and has Steele's full obituary on its website.
