ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A new free festival that drew thousands of people to Center City Allentown last May to celebrate Latin culture will return even bigger this year, organizers said.
Fiesta on Hamilton will return to take over Hamilton Street from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 17, the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce announced.
The free, family-friendly festival will be bigger than last year — adding two more blocks to stretch from Eighth to 12th streets, according to a chamber post on social media.
This year, it also will offer two stages of live entertainment and "more food, more vendors, more energy," the post says.
"Last year, we made history," the chamber said in a new video. "Fiesta on Hamilton exploded into the biggest street festival of the Lehigh Valley, with more than 20,000 [people] in downtown Allentown.
"Fiesta on Hamilton returns bigger, better and hotter than ever. Mark your calendars — the fiesta of the year is coming back."
'Joy, culture and unity' of Latino community
The chamber's website says the festival "will feature world-class entertainment, ensuring a full day of high-energy performances that showcase the rich musical traditions of Latin America."
In addition to music, there will be "Latino cuisine, representing the community's diverse flavors," the post says. "From traditional dishes to modern takes on classic recipes, there's something for everyone to savor."
"This event is one of the biggest celebrations of community Allentown has seen. Invite your friends. Bring your family. Show up ready to dance, eat delicious food and share community."Lehigh County Chamber of Commerce video
There also will be a dedicated health-focused block by Valley Health Partners Community Health Center aimed at improving community wellness.
Attendees can participate in interactive games, giveaways, health screenings and wellness resources, it says.
"This event is one of the biggest celebrations of community Allentown has seen," it says. "Invite your friends. Bring your family. Show up ready to dance, eat delicious food and share community."
Latinos make up 54% of Allentown's population, and the event "highlights their significant contributions to the area's culture and identity," the post says.
"This event is not just a celebration for Allentown but for the entire Lehigh Valley, making it the biggest Latino-themed Fiesta in the area.
"It's a chance for the whole community to come together and experience the joy, culture and unity the Latino community brings to the city."
