Simpson in 2025 released her first recorded music in 15 years with the EPs "Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1" and "Nashville Canyon, Part 2."

Publicity material said the "deeply personal EPs blend country, rock, pop and Americana influences while exploring themes of heartbreak, healing and self-discovery."

The single “Leave” debuted in the iTunes Top 40.

Simpson, now 45, reintroduced herself live with performances at the South by Southwest festival in 2025.

A decade of hits

Simpson released her debut album, "Sweet Kisses," in 1999, when she was just 19.

The disc broke the Top 25 on Billboard's overall Albums chart and sold double-platinum. Its single "I Want to Love You Forever" peaked at No. 3 on the Singles chart and sold platinum.

The follow-up sophomore album "Irresistible" in 2001 broke the Top 10 and reached gold sales. It included the Top 10 title track.

Simpson gained attention for her relationship with Nick Lachey, a member of the boy band 98 Degrees, and appeared with him in the MTV reality series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," which aired 2003-05.

She also had a gold, Top 15 hit on the film soundtrack with a cover of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'."

Motherhood and a book

Her album "A Public Affair" in 2006 peaked at No. 5 and also recorded gold sales, and had a gold, Top 15 hit with the title track. But it was her last hit single.

The 2008 album "Do You Know" peaked at No. 4, but produced no hits.

Her final album before the new EPs was a 2010 holiday album, "Happy Christmas."

Her last tour was in 2009, opening for country band Rascal Flatts.

She starred in a VH1 documentary series, "The Price of Beauty," in 2010, but then stepped away from music to focus on motherhood, with occasional acting roles.

In 2020, she released a memoir, "Open Book," that topped The New York Times Best Seller list. Six new songs were released as part of the book, marking her first release of music in 15 years.
