The family-friendly event will be free to the public.

This year’s event will honor Andy Gelinas, who founded the Lehigh Valley Kite Society in 1991 and Pocono Kite Symphony in 2008.

Gelinas moved to East Stroudsburg in 2004. In an effort to save the Lehigh Valley Kite Society, he started the Poconos Kite Symphony and merged them.

The group uses both names to honor the traditions started by Lehigh Valley Kite Society in Eastern Pennsylvania.

In addition to his work with the two groups, Gelanas was a Region II Director for the American Kitefliers Association, a Sport Kite Judge for the Eastern League and a first-place winner of the Kite Building Competitor (Master Class). He also was a Kite Festival European Traveler for five years, representing the United States.

He passed away in December 2021.

The group partners with the Northampton County Parks to hold Kite Day in the Park on the first Saturday of each May.

It also has two sport kite competition teams, the Valli Girlz and the Valli Boyz and holds kite-building sessions and competitions for kids of all ages.

More than 20,000 kites have been built in its workshops in the past three decades.
