'The Matrix' will be among movies in ArtsQuest's new The 1999 in Film Series: A Tribute to One of Cinema's Greatest Years

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — ArtsQuest is taking Prince's musical advice for its film schedule.

This spring, it's gonna party like it's 1999.

ArtsQuest has announced that, in honor of the 25th anniversary of that year, it will offer The 1999 in Film Series: A Tribute to One of Cinema's Greatest Years.

The series, at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema in the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, "promises to immerse audiences in the magic of 1999, a year celebrated for its groundbreaking and iconic films," an ArtsQuest release said.

The series will showcase "a wide spectrum of cinematic treasures, from iconic blockbusters to engrossing international sensations to cherished indie darlings."

The series will showcase "a wide spectrum of cinematic treasures, from iconic blockbusters to engrossing international sensations to cherished indie darlings," the release said.

The showing of the Oscar-winning "All About My Mother" on May 2 will be free.

Tickets for the other films, at $11 for adults, $8.50 for ages 25 and younger and seniors and $7.50 for ArtsQuest members, are available at www.steelstacks.org.

The series will have films curated by Ryan and Lauren Tocci of the How Could You?! Podcast, as well as titles included in other year-round series such as the free curated series Cinema Significa... and Fem in Film.

“[19]99 gave us a year of intersecting films that influenced cinema far past the calendar’s turn,” Lauren and Ryan Tocci said in a release.

“We saw the early stages of many of our greatest filmmakers and the final bow of one legendary director. Few years in the theater had as big an impact, and we can’t wait to revisit them after 25 years.”
