The holiday season has ended, a new year has started and most of us are back to work on this Tuesday, Jan. 3.
1. It'll be a mild day with highs pushing into the upper 50s, according to the National Weather Service. But you'll need the umbrella, with rain expected throughout the day.
2. The elected officials of Pennsylvania's General Assembly will take the oath of office at noon today, kicking off what likely will be a tumultuous few weeks in state politics.
In Washington, our Tom Shortell will have coverage as Rep. Susan Wild and Senator-elect John Fetterman are also sworn in.
3. A man facing first-degree murder charges in the slayings of four University of Idaho students is not expected to fight extradition at a hearing today in Monroe County Court. Twenty-eight-year-old Bryan Kohberger was taken into custody early Friday by state police at his parents’ home in Chestnuthill Township.
Kohberger received a bachelor's degree in 2020 from DeSales University in Center Valley, and before attending DeSales, received an associate's degree in psychology in 2018 at Northampton Community College.
4. The Parkland Board of School Directors will hold a special public meeting at the Parkland Administration Center, 1210 Springhouse Rd in Allentown at 7 p.m. tonight. The Board will meet with the intent to fill the School Board Director vacancy that was left after Jarrett Coleman resigned in December.
5. Have you looked ahead on the 2023 calendar? This year, both Christmas and New Year's Eve fall on a Monday.
