Today is Festivus, the holiday created by the show Seinfeld in response to the commercialization on Christmas. Some of us on the 5 Things to Know team have never before seen the show, but we have been assured that it is a classic. So if you're tired of us pushing the Christmas spirit, decorate your Festivus pole! (Or light the candles for this, the sixth night of Hanukkah.)
1. According to the National Weather Service in Mt. Holly, N.J. today will be pretty miserable, unless you love freezing rain, snow, and below-zero wind chill. As they say:
"Rain and snow before noon, then a chance of snow between noon and 3pm. Temperature falling to around 14 by 5pm. Wind chill values as low as -5. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 25 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible."
The night will be cloudy and even colder, with a low of six degrees and a wind chill of negative 13. winds will continue.
2. Bethlehem Area School District has declared that they will not be releasing the results of the investigative probe started last month, despite an attorney saying the results are not entirely confidential, as the district posited.
3. Yesterday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced that his office will deliver nearly $300,000 to a local union for training and apprenticeships.
4. Be careful driving today, as the roads may flood and/or freeze.
5. For your daily dose of generally-boring-but-important-to-understand-and-therefore-well-reported (deep breath) news, we bring you an update on the Lower Saucon zoning meeting about the Bethlehem Landfill expansion.
Unfortunately for our loyal readership, the 5 Things to Know team is taken a well-deserved vacation next week and will return with more Things to Know on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Enjoy the many holidays between now and then as best you can, and we will do the same!
