The police standoff at Crest Plaza happened because of a suicidal man, according to a press release.

ALLENTOWN — A Montgomery County man who authorities say was drunk and driving on the wrong side of Airport Road when his car crashed into another in early September, killing an Allentown woman, has been charged with homicide by vehicle.

Brian C. McGoldrick, 42, of Glenside, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.263% — more than three times the 0.08% that state law considers too drunk to drive — when tested an hour after the crash, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said in a Thursday news release.

State police said that at 11:02 p.m. Sept. 2, they were called to the scene of a a two-vehicle crash on Airport Road south of Catasauqua Road in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

They said an investigation revealed that McGoldrick’s 2018 Toyota Prius was northbound in the southbound lanes of Airport Road when it hit a 2009 Toyota Yaris driven by Catherine Ann Neelon, 45.

Neelon died from blunt force injuries from the crash and the Lehigh County coroner ruled her death accidental.

In addition to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, McGoldrick was charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, also a felony; drunken driving; and several misdemeanors, including unsafe driving, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and driving at an unsafe speed.
