Five things to know today

According to National Day Calendar, the third Friday in December is National Underdog Day, making it a perfect time to cuddle up and watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer with your loved ones.

Because Rudolph is the ultimate underdeer.

And December, near Christmas.

You get it.

1. Looks like we're moving to rain and sleet today, according to the National Weather Service in Mt. Holly, N.J.

I'll let you read it from them:

"Rain, mainly before 1pm. High near 42. Breezy, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible."

2. Longtime Lehigh Valley resident and former Girl Scout CEO Frances Hesselbein passed away recently, and the tributes came pouring in from far and wide.

3. Obituaries were released for Marvin Gruber and Zachary Paris, the fallen New Tripoli firefighters, in anticipation of their services on Saturday.

4. U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, a Republican from the Lehigh Valley, gave his farewell address to the U.S. Senate yesterday.

5. After previously stating he wouldn't, state Senator-elect Jarrett Coleman has resigned from the Parkland School Board.
