It's a dreary Tuesday in the Lehigh Valley, which sets up this 5 Things rather nicely to take a trip down memory lane.
1. On this date in 2008, the Phillies hosted Game 3 of the 2008 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Steve Carlton threw out the ceremonial first pitch while Berks County native Taylor Swift sang the national anthem. The game was delayed for an hour and 31 minutes because of rain. Country music star Tim McGraw, son of late Phillies reliever Tug McGraw, spread his father's ashes on the pitching mound of Citizens Bank Park prior to the game's start.
2. Speaking of rain, the National Weather Service says today will bring a chance of drizzle or light showers, along with patchy fog. The good news? It'll be mostly cloudy otherwise, and with a high nearing 70 degrees. That's pretty warm for late October.
3. Looking for something to do with the little ones? Crayola's Screamin' Green Hauntoween continues today and all week in Easton. It includes crafts, themed scavenger hunts, character photo ops, pumpkin decorating and more. Find it on our community calendar.
4. Pat's Pizza & Bistro in Bethlehem went viral for its pasta flights earlier this year, so it's only fitting they have a brand new fall menu featuring - what else - pasta? We'll have a story later today (which is also World Pasta Day!) on the latest fall flavors, including Sage Pumpkin Gnocchi.
5. As we're celebrating National I Care About You Day, The Kindness Project has opened its second location called the Kindness Cottage in Stroudsburg. They hope to send love to more foster families by providing clothing, shoes, school supplies, beds and anything else a child may need. Read the story and don't forget to plan something special for your friends and family!
Our normal author of 5 Things is away this week but left us this quote to share. (Maybe we'll see the sun later this week?)
“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.”Nathaniel Hawthorne
