Sixpence None the Richer, known for its 1990s hits "There She Goes" and "Kiss Me," will play a free show at Musikfest's AmericaPlatz stage on July 31.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A music group that in the 1990s had two uplifting hits and was nominated for two Grammy Awards will play a free show at Musikfest in August, it was announced Wednesday.

So will a pop singer who in the early 2000s had two gold hits, a platinum album and frequently appeared on an MTV reality TV show.

And an artist who is among the Top 10 list of most Grammy Awards won also will play.

"From rock to reggae, jazz to indie, pop to polka, there’s something for every music lover to discover, all in the country’s largest free music festival."
Musikfest news release

Sixpence None the Richer, known best for its 1998 triple-platinum hit "Kiss Me" and its 1999 gold hit "There She Goes," will play the huge downtown Bethlehem festival on July 31.

Also playing a free Musikfest show will be Ryan Cabrera, who had the 2004 Top 10 Pop chart singles "On the Way Down" and "True."

And polka trumpeter Jimmy Sturr, who won 18 Grammy Awards out of 24 nominations — more wins than any other polka artist also will play a free show.

The three were among the best-known artists among 331 music acts announced for about 500 concerts on Musikfest's 15 free stages during the July 31-Aug. 9 festival, with a July 30 preview night.

"From rock to reggae, jazz to indie, pop to polka, there’s something for every music lover to discover, all in the country’s largest free music festival," Musikfest said in a release.

It said the list is not yet complete, the full schedule will be released later.

Artists had begun announcing show on free stagesbefore Musikfest released the list.

The list did not specify the times and dates for most artists, but said Sixpence None the Richer, will play at 9:30 p.m. July 31 at AmericaPlatz (the Levitt Pavilion stage).

Cabrera will play 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at AmericaPlatz, it said.

Chart hits, awards

Sixpence None the Richer released its debut album, "The Fatherless and the Widow," in 1994, but didn't have chart success until its self-titled third disc in 1997.

That album reached platinum sales, and included "Kiss Me," which hit No. 1on the Pop singles chart, and "There She Goes," which peaked at No. 7 on the Adult singles chart and hit gold.

The band's significant spiritual bent also helped the album hit No. 1 on the Christian music chart, and got it nominated for three Dove Awards.

"Kiss Me" in 2000 was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Its next album, 2002's "Divine Discontent," peaked at No. 9 on the Christian chart and had two Adult chart hits — "Breathe Your Name" and a cover of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over" that peaked at No. 9.

Sixpence None the Richer released two more albums, but the band broke up in 2004. It reunited 2007-16, but broke up again before coming together again in 2023.

It has released several singles since.

Cabrera's major label debut album "Take It All Away" in 2004 broke the Billboard Top 10 and sold platinum, and also produced the hit "40 Kinds of Sadness."

His sophomore disc, "You Stand Watching," also charted in the Top 25 and produced the Top 25 pop hit "Shine On."

His most recent album was 2008's "Moon Under Water," which also charted in Billboard's Top 200. He released an EP, "Wake Up, Beautiful," in 2015.

Cabrera, with his trademark spiked hair with frosted tips, frequently appeared on singer Ashlee Simpson's reality show "The Ashlee Simpson Show."

In 2005, Cabrera was host of the MTV series "Score," in which contestants wrote and performed songs to impress a guest on the show, and in 2010, he was on several episodes of MTV's "The Hills."

He also appeared in 2019 on "The Hills: New Beginnings."

Sturr and His Orchestra, with more than 100 albums, won 13 Grammy Awards for Best Polka Album. With the discontinuation of the polka category, he will likely remain the winner of the most polka Grammys ever.
