BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions this weekend for a six-hour stretch in Carbon County.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says the planned closure affects both directions between the Mahoning Valley (Exit 74) and Route 903 (Exit 87) exits from midnight to 6 a.m. Sunday.
The temporary shutdown is required for bridge work, according to the commission. Traffic will be directed off the turnpike during the work.
The suggested detour for northbound traffic:
- Route 209 south for 6.5 miles
- Route 903 north for 10.4 miles
- Re-enter at the Route 903 interchange

The commission says state police and turnpike crews will be positioned to assist drivers during the closure. Digital message signs will also alert to the shutdown.
The turnpike commission says work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
